Four ways to write website copy that actually sounds like YOU

In a world full of AI-generated everything, your personality is your power.

Let’s face it, honey, AI is everywhere. It’s writing emails, captions, grocery lists, and yep, even full-on websites.

And while it’s convenient, we can all spot AI copy from a mile away now, can’t we? It’s allergic to contractions, a little too polished, and uses far too many em dashes and emojis.

But when it comes to your website, you don’t want to fake human storytelling. The real-deal really matters. Because your voice is your biggest selling point.

Your real, quirky, heartfelt, “no one else like you” tone sets your brand apart.

It builds trust. It sells without being pushy. And it makes people think, “Yesss. THIS is who I want to work with.”

So, let’s do a little copyediting, shall we?

Here are Four ways to write website copy that actually sounds like YOU:

1. Don’t be afraid to get weird.

The internet doesn’t need another “elevated experience” or “bespoke solution.” It needs you and your go-to phrases.

If you’re goofy, go with it. If you’re poetic and deep, lean in. If you’re into puns (we get it 🐝), buzz away. Your copy should act like a client filter, attracting the right people and gently repelling the wrong ones.

✌️out red flag clients.

2. Read it out loud.

This trick’s so simple, but it really works. Read your website copy out loud and ask yourself: “Would I actually say this to a friend or a client?”

If the answer is no, scrap it or simplify it. Your voice should feel natural, warm, and human.

3. Cut the corporate crap.

We love a good buzzword roast. “Solutions” are fine. “Innovative frameworks”? Meh. Do not get us started on the overuse of the word “empower”.

How about saying what you really do instead?

Take some of our new and improved web copy, for example:

  • “We design thoughtful brands that turn heads and open doors.”

  • “We’re here to show you that redesigning your website doesn’t have to mean endless revisions or overwhelming tech jargon. It can mean a smooth, collaborative process that leaves you with a site you’re proud of and excited to share.”

Check out this before and after to see the difference that authentic copy can make.

Clear > clever, every single time.

And if you’re too close to your biz to write clearly? It’s totally normal. It’s hard to read the label when you’re inside the jar. 🍯

Count on us to pop the lid off the jar you’re stuck in so you can see your brand from a different point of view. During our Rebranding + Website process, we’ll hone in on your strengths and highlight the details that deserve the spotlight, all in a way that’s authentic to you and resonates deeply with your audience.

4. Use AI as a starting point, not the final draft.

We love a brainstorm buddy, and AI can help with prompts, outlines, and editing grammar. But it can’t feel what you feel. It can’t tell your stories. It can’t share why you do what you do or how you got here.

Use it to get ideas flowing, sure. But then take the wheel. Add your flavor, your metaphors, and your voice.

Because your people don’t just want to know what you do. They want to know why you do it and why it matters to them.

We created a little freebee to help you use AI in a way that helps you find your voice instead of getting lost in a sea of copy ideas that don’t feel quite like you: Chat GPT Blog Idea Prompts!

Need a little help clarifying your message, rediscovering your voice, and building a website that feels like you? We got you.
